First of all, I apologize for my lapse in posts. I'm combining these two days because they felt like one big huge seemingly endless day! The alarm went off at 1am in our hotel in Chicago. We caught the hotel shuttle to the airport at 3am, got on a plane for the 1 hr, 34 min to Toronto, Canada at 6am where we had a nice layover and hopped on our over 13 hour trans Atlantic all day AND all night flight to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia only to find that we had less than a half hour to catch our next 4 plus hour trip to Harare, Zimbabwe...where we spent a couple of hours going through immigration/ customs before our colorful ride with our lodges hired driver in his "taxi". Needlesstosay, I was falling asleep sitting up by the time we arrived.
I sat all night and all day because you lose 7 hours from Toronto ( 8 from Chicago, 9 from Montana) so time appears to go twice as fast, especially when the sun goes down! it was totally incredible though because the skies were totally clear and the moon was almost full so and there was this cool computer thingy that showed our progress as we sped around the globe and so we could look out the windows and actually SEE the outlines of several things we recognized on the screen, like France, the south of France (which thrilled Colin beyond belief) as well as islands in the Mediteranean Sea, the "boot toe" of Italy, the western shore of the Red Sea and by morning the vast Sahara Desert north of Ethiopia. It was a sleepless night very well spent!
I will post pictures of those days individually because our WiFi here is really spotty and unreliable. In fact, I hope that I can figure out how to copy and past thugs post that I've just written (again) because the internet went down while I was writing it. So excuse rhetoric photos that will be out of order from when they were taken.
There is SO much more to say but it's time for bed. Good night!
What an amazing experience already. What a flight!!!
